I took a big leap today and recorded a video of myself talking to you. (It’s now Tuesday! It took me an entire day to figure out how to upload the video!) I don’t really need to write much because I talked for 10 minutes in this little heart to heart video about loving yourself. It is so important to me to open up my heart and be transparent. I want to add a couple little disclaimers here:
- I am focusing today on how I struggle with loving myself physically. My heart has become very burdened for women and girls who are constantly bombarded with images and attitudes that make us put so much worth into our looks. I completely believe that true beauty comes from within.
- Obviously, in my photography business, I not only use Photoshop, but my clients receive professional hair and makeup. Some might think that this is hypocritical of the thoughts that I share. The main point is about how we think about ourselves. I personally love wearing makeup and doing my hair, but that doesn’t make it the only way for every woman. I would never force any client to have makeup done if they did not want it. Also, our makeup is very natural and not intended to change my seniors’ looks, just enhance the beauty that is already there. My Photoshopping of images is cleaning up stray hairs, removing blemishes and popping colors basically. I am not altering bodies (although I will admit that I have altered my own in pictures).
- I love people and I really care about people being whole and free.
Here is the link to the video that I talked about in my video. It features Taryn Brumfit who started the Body Image Movement. “The Body Image Movement (BIM) is an internationally recognized crusade that was founded on the belief that your body is not an ornament, it’s the vehicle to your dreams. BIM believes that everyone has the right to love and embrace their body, regardless of shape, size, ethnicity or ability.”
