Senior Portraits Urban Gabby

As a senior portraits photographer in Kansas, I have a very seasonal business. Because I no longer have a studio location, I have months where my camera just sits in my office waiting to be held! After ten years in this business, I have come to “somewhat” embrace the seasons of senior portraits in Kansas and the limits I have. I must admit that I get serious envy over my photographer friends in places where their seasons are not this severe. I see them pretty much shoot all year long. For me, I have 98% of my business crammed into six months. Those six months are extremely busy, which I am so thankful for, but it sure would be nice to be able to spread some of that throughout the rest of the year. I do have a lot to work on during those quiet shooting months. When I am in my busy season many other parts of my business get left behind (another thing I have come to accept). Since I don’t have a partner or employee, the bookkeeping, the website updates, the marketing development and all the many aspects of running your own business, all fall on my shoulders and hey, a woman can only do so much…even though we all know they can do a whole heck of a lot!

I was so thrilled to book beautiful Gabby from Grandview High School for her senior portraits shoot at the end of March. She was pretty psyched too! Well, you know how we had all that tremendously warm weather in February? March was a different story! The first scheduled session we had looked like it was going to go off like planned. I was a little concerned that the wind was kicking up a bit, but when you live in Kansas, you deal with the wind regularly during shoots. I have to tell you though; this wind was not playing around! So after Gabby went through her complimentary professional hair and makeup, we headed downtown. We lasted 15 minutes and had to call the shoot. The wind was out of control!! Thankfully, we were able to reschedule and shoot the next week and although a little gray, cold and windy, you can see for yourselves, that Gabby looks amazing.

I am so excited for Gabby! This girl is graduating a year early from high school and is headed to Kansas State University to pursue her dreams in their pre-veterinary medicine. Way to go, Gabby!!
